Our Story
It started in the middle of a recession. In 1974, Mark Grill was developing rental accounts for a company that dealt in heavy iron — tractors, trucks, and bulldozers — when the downturn forced his employer to sell off its fleet. Where others saw a closing door, Mark saw an opening. He bought the inventory and, alongside his brother Paul, opened the doors of Aaction Rents & Equipment.
When their brother John came aboard, the three of them grew a scrappy startup into a Northern California institution. One yard became six. A handful of machines became one of the region’s most trusted fleets. And through every economic cycle since, the family kept the lights on and the equipment running.
Today, Aaction Rents is the largest full-service equipment rental company in the North Bay — and still owned and operated by the Grill family. The promise Mark made on day one hasn’t changed: the best equipment, kept in the best shape, backed by people who treat every customer like one of their own.

1974
Windsor — where it began
It all began in 1974, when the Grill family opened the first Aaction Rents in Windsor. From a single yard, they set out to give contractors, homeowners, and businesses dependable equipment backed by genuine, personal service. Windsor is still our flagship and home base today.
1994
Fulton
In 1994, Aaction Rents grew with a full-service location in Fulton — broadening our footprint across Sonoma County and putting a larger, well-maintained fleet closer to more job sites and customers.
1996
Healdsburg
The Healdsburg store opened in 1996, extending full-service rentals into northern Sonoma County and the surrounding wine country — keeping the right equipment within easy reach for local builders, growers, and homeowners.
1997
Santa Rosa
In 1997 we opened in Santa Rosa, anchoring Aaction Rents in the county's largest city. The location quickly became a go-to for contractors taking on everything from residential remodels to larger commercial projects.
2010
Ukiah
In 2010 our reach extended north into Mendocino County with the Ukiah location, bringing the same dependable, well-kept fleet and knowledgeable team to a whole new community.
2012
Vacaville
In 2012 Aaction Rents expanded east into Solano County with the Vacaville store — our sixth location, and a reflection of decades of steady, family-driven growth across Northern California.

Today, Aaction Rents is the largest full-service equipment rental company in the North Bay, with six locations serving Sonoma, Mendocino, and Solano Counties and the surrounding region. Still owned and operated by the Grill family, we carry the same commitment to quality equipment and personal service that started it all in 1974.
